Paddocks around the world were crowded with mega-big trucks, loaded with sponsor advertisements of spare parts, workshop, media, tele companies and hotels.
Life was simpler in the mid-50s, when Ferrari ordered a pair of 642 RN2 Alpine bus chassis from Fiat. They were delivered to Carrozzeria Bartoletti in Forli, a small hour's distance from Modena, a company that had specialized in the manufacture of coaches for football teams and other sports organizations.
There were a total of four built by Bartoletti in 1956, of which the two spent their time in transporting bodies from the Scaglietti in Modena to the final completion of Maranello. The other two were available for the race team.
Ferrari took loads up to 1968, after which one was acquired by Scuderia Jolly Club in Milan who used it until 1970, after which Tecno F2 team in Bologna took it in a few years before Scuderia CSAI painted it in their blue and white colors. The progressively aging car slid out of practical use in the mid-'70s, and when the plates were not renewed, the cart was put away on a farm near Modena.
Amongst the best known Race Transporters are the FIAT/Bartoletti transporters around which teams and fans alike would congregate during a race weekend. Used by a variety of well known teams, the vehicles bodied by Bartoletti for the 1956 World Championship-winning Scuderia Ferrari and the 1957 World Championship-winning Scuderia Maserati are iconic.
