Darracq
1906 – 1910
Darracq Italiana (Società Italiana Automobili Darracq) was an Italian automotive manufacturer based in Napels with operations in 1906 through 1910. The French Darracq models were well known in Italy and could also sell well here. In 1906 to evade the duty, the parent company in Suresnes, decided to base an assembly plant in Italy. The result was a plant based in Naples, called the company "Società Italiana Automobili Darracq" years later when they realized the disadvantages of the site, since several other companies were set up in Milan. Here is were most of the suppliers of automotive parts were at home. The big Darracq models were still manufactured in France and imported. In Italy, they produced the 8/10 HP Model and a series of "cab" models with 4-cylinder engines called the 14/16 HP type. Then, when sales fell off in 1909, they sold the Darracq factory plant in Portello to a group of entrepreneurs from Lombard. The new owners were also involved in the establishment of A.L.F.A..
